Candidate for President, US Senator John F. Kennedy, visited Washington County Friday, May 13, 1960. Arriving the evening before, he spent the night at the Alexander Hotel. His morning visits included Fairchild, his campaign headquarters in downtown Hagerstown, a stop at Fisher's Pharmacy (Halfway?) then on to Williamsport, Funkstown, Boonsboro, Middletown, and Frederick. Here is he seen shaking hands with Mrs. Betty Bowser Hanna.
On September 26, 1952 , candidate for President General Dwight Eisenhower passed through Williamsport. Oliver Britner, one of the attendants at the Potomac River Bridge tollhouse, was selected to present Mrs. Eisenhower with a large bunch of red roses.
